Rabbi Avraham Ibn Ezra - Scholar and Astrologer
Ibn Ezra was a great Biblical scholar, grammarian, mathematician, philosopher, poet, and last but not least - a great Astrologer.
He was born in 11th century Spain, but spent all his adult life wandering among the Jewish communities in Europe, during which times he wrote his greatest works. Rome, Italy was his first station on that road, and in 1148 he began writing his Astrological corpus which covered all the branches of astrology.These works represent Medieval astrology at its best, comprising the Hellenistic and Arabic astrological traditions that preceded his time.
The purpose of this website is to promote Ibn Ezra's astrology and the tradition it is based on, as well as teach this ancient wisdom and share the quest for the Higher Wisdom.
To use Ibn Ezra's own words:
'I am hereby laying the foundation for the book Beginning of Wisdom. And I know that every astrologer endeavors to learn the secret of the Great Lord, as in the words of Agur Ben Yakeh “I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy,” who are the angels. Therefore he said “Who hath ascended to heaven and then descended?” and this is the reason why we do not have complete knowledge as the angels do, for who has gone up there and came back down to tell people the word of truth? God said to Job “Knowest thou the ordinance of the heavens?” but the wise at heart have searched generation after generation, and on the ladder of the science of measurements their soul ascended to heaven, and through a great many trials have accomplished it.' --The Book of Reasons
